Sergio Gomez just has arrived in Mancherster today to complete the siging with Manchester City for $11m from Belgain First Division A football league, Anderlecht. Gomez, 21 year-old, a Spanish professional football player, who plays as an attacking midfielder and left-back. He was born in Badalona, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and joined FC Barcelona’s youth setup in 2010 at age of 10. He signed with Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund on 2018 at age of 18, and initially played with the team of youth 19 side, and made his debut for the senior squad on 2018. On 2021, he signed for Belgian First Division A club, Anderlecht on a permanent transfer until 2025. His move on Man City will be officially announced by next week.
Why Man City is signing on him?
The main reason is Oleksandr Zinchenko who played a left-wing back and midfielder moved to Arsenal in this season. Man City wanted to sign with a player who can cover his role. Man City’s first choice on a left wing-back is Joao Cancelo. Cancelo is amazing and world class wing back, so Zinchenko couldn’t beat him to be joined in the first squad unless Cancelo gets injury. Therefore, he moved in Arsenal where he can play easier in the first squad.
The second reason is Gomez is still young and has a great potential. As you can know that, he was in the Barcelona’s youth setup where anyone can’t join. Players who has a potential to grow up could join the setup. He can join the first squad after Cancelo if Gomez grows up as he is doing it right now. His preferred foot is left and his strengths are crossing, agility, balance, vision, and dribbling. In my opinion, it is a very good signing for both player and club.
