[REVIEW] Trader Joe’s Scallion Pancakes (Pa Jeon)

Hi all!

I bought the Pa Jeon from the Trader Joe’s for $2.49 today and leaving some comments on it. I hope you enjoy it:) Let’s get it!

Pa Jeon is a traditional Korean food. It was presented at the king’s table and became popular around ordinary people later. It is pretty easy to make so everyone could make it easy. It is usually made by mixing rice or wheat flour, glutinous rice flour, egg, scallions, and water. You can also add beef, pork, or seafoods such as oysters, shrimp, squid, and clams on it. It was one of favorite dish to farmers. They enjoyed eating it between their farming with cold Korean Rice Wine (Makgeolli).

Anyway, the Trader Joe’s Pa Jeon contains water, wheat flour, corn starch, salt, garlic powder, pepper, corn powder, baking powder, sodium acid pyrophosphate, calcium phosphate, sodium bicarbonate, calcium stearate, onion, leek, carrot, scallion, king oyster mushroom, egg, soybean oil, and soy sauce. Watch out! It contains wheat, egg, and soybean. There are 4 pancakes inside. A fun fact is it is a product of Korea. The market gets imported from Korea.

To enjoy it, is pretty easy. Just heat it on oven or frying pan. I chose to heat it on a frying pan. Add a small amount of vegetable oil to the pan and heat to medium. Add the pancakes and cook for about 3 minutes per side until golden and crispy. If you heat it on oven, just put it in and heat it about 6-7 minutes at 400 F degree.

Golden and crispy!
Yummy~

I recommend you eating it with a dipping soy sauce. A recipe of the dipping sauce is super easy! Add 2 tbsp of dark soy sauce, 1/2 tbsp of red pepper flake, 1 tbsp of vinegar, 1 tbsp of sesame oil, and 1 tbsp of sesame seeds on a small cup and mix them. You can also add green onion and green pepper.

I also recommend you eating it with the cold Korean rice wine (Makgeolli). You can easily find it from any Korean markets. It is creamy and sweet flavor. It washes the oily flavor of Pa Jeon very well so a perfect combination.

A flavor of the Pa Jeon was very great! Its taste was almost same as having it in Korea. It was very crispy and I could taste full flavor of scallion. However, it was little bit oily so I recommend you adding a very small of oil when you heat it on the pan. The Makgeolli would also wash it well. I will review a several Makgeollis as well in the future (Please look forward to it haha). You can add some seafoods on it, would be awesome. The price of it also is very great, so I recommend trying it!!!
